Fox ejectors

Post by lee r moege »

I seem to remember there were some problems associated with Fox ejectors and their timing at some point in the manufacturing dates. Can somebody enlighten me on this? Did they use coil springs on all Fox ejectors? I owned a AE 12 guage back in the 60's [wish I still had it, a kid got sick], but I never had it apart to look. It was a Cromox Philly gun as I remember. I'm getting the itch to go Fox hunting for a 20ga. ejector gun.It seems like there is an extra Parker Repro in the vault that doesn't have much tenure. Thanks, Lee.

The sears in the early style Fox ejectors designed by A.H. Fox & G.A. Horne, Patent No. 921,220, granted May 11, 1909, are reportedly rather delicate. By the time the smallbores were introduced, the A.H. Fox Gun Co. had moved on to the F.T. Russell designed ejectors, Patent No. 991,375 granted May 2, 1911. So, no ejector issues in Ansley H. Fox smallbores. Both style ejectors were powered by coil springs. I once had the opportunity to examine an early C-Grade 12-gauge that had been retrofitted with ejectors outside the factory which used V-springs.
