What grade guns were the Hy-Guns used on or were they only offered by request? Now if he will only get some Jostam Anti-Flinch pads in stock.

Normally the pad used on the lower grade guns were Jostam Anti-Flinch and on higher grades Silvers or Silvers type (I've seen a leather-faced Jostam Air Cushon on an FE-Grade, you could see the Jostam triangle logo through the thin leather!). I've seen a few cards that request the Jostam Sponge Rubber pad and in the Savage-era requests for Hawkins Pads. Burt Becker must have had a good Supply of Jostam Hy-Gun pads as that seems to be the pad that appears most often on Becker-built guns.

Guns prior to 1914, when Jostam was organized, would have had a Silvers pad.

None of this makes any sense as the Jostam Anti-Flinch was a $3.25 pad, the Air-Cushon was a $3 pad and the Hy-Gun was a $2.75 pad.

Perhaps old Burt was just frugal. Were there any records of No-Shok pads being used?

CSMC is also now offering a repop of the Hawkins heart shaped pad. I also wish they would offer the anti flinch pad as they are hard to find.

I just blew off a few good hours I could have been doing yard work (ha ha), going thru the last third of the graded 16-gauge records looking for recoil pads. Mostly Jostam Anti-Flinch if specified and often just "recoil pad" or "soft rubber recoil pad." I found two CE-Grades and two SPE-Grades that specified Hawkins Recoil Pad. One AE-Grade that specified a Silvers Recoil Pad, while the very next gun was an AE-Grade and specified a "Silvers Type Recoil Pad." Another AE-Grade and an XE-Grade specified "Silvers Type Recoil Pad." Two CE-Grades and one AE-Grade specified Jostam Air-Cushion Recoil Pad. One AE-Grade specified a D.W. Recoil Pad, though the D looks kind of like a IJ. Didn't find a No-Shoc.

I noticed two 27-inch barrel guns, and one card that said "Cut off barrels 26"."

Mr. Researcher you are in fact "The Man", thanks for giving up your Saturday afternoon of yard work.

I spent the afternoon playing hide and go seek with my Llewellin and a frozen quail. He only tried to play hide the quail from the man once. We are getting better.
