Steggy and I had a chance to connect and hunt about 1 1/2 hour North of where we live. It was a sunny, breezy cool day and the wind picked up as the day went on. We were both carrying Fox A Grade 16’s, ( in my opinion about the perfect grouse and woodcock gauge/gun!). We hunted three coverts about 25 miles apart.
Jeff was able to connect on a woodcock in the second covert we hunted with a great retrieve to hand by Rosey. Due to the wind the birds were skittish with more flushes than points but still a great day. A total of 7 grouse contacts and 4 woodcock contacts. Leaves are really dropping from the aspen (finally)! All in all a great day for two older gentlemen with Fox guns and a happy Llewelyn Setter!

Re: A little MI hunting
Brett, thanks for posting those pictures. Rosey is a great dog!!!! I performed an autopsy and I believe that you were responsible for the death of the bird, not me. I considered digging for pellets and measuring them with calipers, but it was getting late and I didn’t feel like “digging” that far. Good luck on today’s hunt.
Shoot vintage firearms, relax, and have fun.

2 - 16's is the way to go!
I'm jealous as our season has not started yet for woodcock.
