Properly oriented cell phone pics

Just sayin' that to me at least, seeing an otherwise nice gun or hunting pic posted at 90-degrees to proper orientation greatly detracts from the scene. For those who care enough to post good pics ……

There are probably other ways to do it but If you email your smart phone pics to a computer and save them, you can use the Paint program to turn them 90-degrees, resize, crop, etc. Then resave as a .jpeg and when you post they will be properly oriented. frank

What can be frustrating for people using cell phones,
Is if a picture is taken in the proper orientation, but then they post it from their phone, for some reason the photo rotates 90 degrees.

When I am not near my computer and I have the urge to post a picture from my phone, I use the “crop” feature. In this scenario, I don’t have to change the orientation. I just “crop” the picture a little bit, and doing so, locks the picture in the original orientation. This is a trick that Stan Hoover taught me and I use it regularly.

Click the 3 lines for “edit”.

Now click the “crop” feature and crop the picture, even just a smidge. Then save the picture.

I find any editing will prevent the picture from rotating incorrectly, I often adjust the shadow or the contrast and it works. I hate a stiff neck

If you click on a mis-aligned photo in a thread on this website, it will often flip 90 degrees and align correctly - not sure why.

Thanks for this info!! My last post was displayed 90 degrees off and I had no idea why. Now I know. I assumed since it was one of my first few posts that I had accidentally attached the photo wrong. Now I know how to correct the issue in the future. Great. And thanks

That's how I've always done pics for posting, Frank. Thanks for addressing it here.

I take a pic with my phone, then email it to my own email address. It shows up in my inbox on my home desktop Mac. Then, I download it into my files and/or photo album.

I can use jpg.box to post any pic in my files or photos to any forum . . . . AHFCA, PGCA, ScreamandFly, whatever.

Just for info, last night I tried a slight crop/save on a pic taken with my new iPhone 16 Pro (3 cameras) and then posting it directly on Fox but the pic was rejected because "the file was too big". And I don't see any way of reducing the size of the pic without emailing it to my laptop computer as I described in my first post. frank

Agreed! I have had that problem and I have not figured out how to reduce the file size without using a laptop. In some instances, I have cropped the picture so the file is small enough, but then I lose some of the picture. If anyone knows how to reduce the file size, while using just an IPhone, I sure would like to hear about it.

I’m guessing someone will be along with a newer iPhone that can help you guys, I have never tried posting from my iPhone but use my iPad to put pictures on this site.

File being too large, I’m not sure that I recall seeing that one.

So I use my iPhone 15 with 3 camera lenses or my iPad with single camera lens to take pictures, my iPhone & iPad are automatically syncing with each other periodically and also iCloud. I have always posted them from my iPad after slightly altering them, should work the same from an iPhone.

Thanks Stan for your reply. I've tried again to directly post pics from my iPhone 16 Pro/Cloud and still no go. Further checking shows its camera creates 5.2 mb files, and the only way I can reduce them for posting on Fox is to email to my computer, save, resize and then post from the computer. I seem to recall our site pic limit is 5.0 mb and possibly Craig get check if that limit can be bumped up? frank

For some reason I have not encountered many issues with my Samsung Android phone. Must be more of an I phone problem.

Tom, your Samsung is probably taking pics at < 5.0 mb which as I recall is the max file size for the Fox site. frank

Yes, it certainly is puzzling. I’ve had pictures on my phone that are too big. On the other hand, I can scroll through the pictures on my phone and find a huge variety of sizes. Most pictures are in the 2.8-3.4 range. However, some are around 1.5 and a few are at 4.2. I don’t know what causes the variation: lighting, zoom, etc. Is there a digital camera expert out there that can offer an explanation?

Never had that problem with my Polaroid.
