Wow that was a strong price for the 16ga BE that hammered at the RI auction a few days back, $9400.

November 1929, that is eleven years after the B-/BE-Grades disappeared from the A.H. Fox Gun Co. catalogs and price lists. I think we discussed this gun when it first appeared. The shape of the grip and the grip checkering look Savage. The RIA text says the chokes are .007"/.007" while the card shows Imp. Cyl. and Full.

I thought it would sell for around 5K. It was lacking condition imo. Those second generation B grade prices are rather amazing.

I haven't looked up this RI BE 16 to check its condition etc, but I was reminded of an early BE 16 I sold for $7.7K back in 2012. All original with hunting wear, good dimensions, 2nd gen engraving, 26" Krupp barrels with upland chokes and the snap on forend. I wonder what it would bring at auction today? frank

The Billy Gough style B-/BE-Grades are actually the fourth style.

Yep, there are three variants/styles of the first Generation B engraving but that's irrelevant here. Most of us refer to the Gough-inspired B Grade engraving as second Generation. frank

Small bore BE’s aren’t often seen so price tends to be up there for both 20 & 16 gauge specimens. This price does seem a little high to me but not out of the realm.

At this price for a bit odd 16-gauge, what is the current market for the totally right 32-inch BE-Grade 20-gauge that surfaced in Yakima, Washington, some years ago and then moved to New York state?

At auction I would say the skies the limit on that one. Oh my.

Makes me wonder what kind of interest my pair of B's (16 & 12)) would generate.

The 12 is the one with the outrageous wood.
