Gotta Love Dealer Descriptions

Post by Researcher »

This week I've seen a Baker Gun Co. Model 1897 Hammer Gun listed as "made by Baker Gun Company, a firearm manufacturer from the former country of Batavia located within the Netherlands."

Also a Parker said to be made in Hartford, CT.

Often that works in the buyer's favor. Just two days ago I found a nice original LC Smith Long Range. The seller had it listed as a Smith SxS and with only about 6 words of description; and my interest piqued when I saw what looked to be a LONG RANGE stamping on the barrel lug in one of the blurry pics. I sleuthed the seller's shop phone number and called to ask about wood cracks, bore conditions, firing mechanism function, screw slots, etc. The seller is primarily a modern gun dealer with little knowledge of vintage double-guns but with the Smith in hand was able to answer my questions. Then I asked him to text me more pics. She's a 32"/3-incher, double triggers, buttplate, bores bright and shiny, no dents, no cracks. Nowadays my main focus is all original/honest guns with some hunting wear and spirit intact. This one comes from a major flyway area. A done deal at low pricing, not that I need it but I can’t pass up vintage long range doubles like this one. frank
