Skeet and Upland

Post by zacharysmith »

Does anyone know how many Skeet and Upland models were produced? Production numbers by gauge? Sterlingworth vs. SP

The short answer is no.

If someone with access to the records went through them and counted them up the answer is knowable. Roe Clark counted up the graded 16- & 20-gauge guns for McIntosh's book, but he didn't break out the Skeet & Uplands from other SP-/SPE-Grades for the 16-gauge.

From my now 35 years of recording observed Sterlingworths, I find 12-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game guns in blocks. I've recorded two, probably prototype guns, with long backstrap trigger guards in the 1306xx range. I've recorded four Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns with 28-inch barrels in the 1356xx & 1357xx range, three with ejectors. The great bulk of 12-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns are 26-inch barrel guns in the 160xxx range. I've recorded 27 Skeet & Upland Game Guns from 160076 to 160818 but five regular Fox-Sterlingworths 160471 to 160644. No pattern has developed in the 16- and 20-gauge Fox-Sterlingworths I've observed.

After 35 years of recording these, how many are on the list in total?
