MA actually has a really good stocking program. They also do a great job maintaining pheasant fields by growing and cutting corn mazes and other cover.
Opening day and the larger more popular fields can be war zones so went to a smaller off the beaten path place. Tough field to hunt early in the year due to growth. Pheasant bury and hold.
About 10min into the hunt both dogs started smelling something and sticking their noses straight up. They don't run a field but rather walk around and catch a scent and hone in. They both caught a scent and started moving a little faster and searching and maybe 2min later they honed in on a specific grass pile and out popped a hen. Dropped it in heavy grass and they found it. Then 10min later flushed another hen except this time they decided to play tug a war with the dead bird and one got its head and the other a leg. Used my SW with 28" M/F barrels.

Re: MA Pheasant Opening Day
Nice pictures. That grass looks like it’s tough to walk through. Congrats!
