Rosie running in SD!
Spent most of last week hunting late season Pheasant in NW South Dakota. Had a great time and great hunting. For the first three days we hunted a farm near Bison, SD. Luckily no snow and while cold and windy a couple days we managed to get our 7 man limit two out of the three days. A bonus was also getting into some Sharptail and a few Huns to boot.
Rosie did great and has really picked up on hunting wild Roosters. Scenting was good except at times the wind created some challenges for the dogs. Below are a few pics. The first one is Rosie and I on the left with Maple and my son-in-law on the right. Maple is a 2 y/o that got her first intro to wild pheasants and did great. We had 2 other Setters on the trip and a total of 7 Michigan hunters.
The last two days my S-I-L and I hunted public land down near Platte, SD before making the trek back home! Both Dogs and men were exhausted by the end of the week!!

Great pics and story! Its been years since I had an opportunity for Phez and Sharpies in SD. Last time we hunted a combination of public and private lands south of Pierre down near Murdo, Presho and White River. Phez are always exciting but I have to say Sharptails are my ultimate favorite birds of the plains. Kevin

Fantastic, Brett! Were you using one of your A.H. Fox shotguns? Jim
Goodbye Mandy, once in a life time hunting dog. I miss you every day.

Jim,
On this hunt I was not using a Fox. Given it was late season and windy I used an SKB 200E that I could use 3” Fiochi #5 Golden Pheasant loads in.

Very solid guns those SKB's. They can handle those 3" loads without a burb. You probably know this, but keep that thru bolt snug as if it loosens they are prone to having some cracks at the head of the stock.
