Original Fox Gun Company A-grade... help needed
Original Fox Gun Company A-grade... help needed
I have recently acquired a Fox Gun Company SxS 12 gauge. All numbers match and read 618, with the letter “A” on the barrel and receiver. From what I have read, it is an A-grade twist barrel, 2.5 inch chamber, manufactured between 1898 and 1899. If this is incorrect someone please correct me, information was hard to find on this gun. Overall the gun is in decent condition, with the exception of a cracked stock, and one internal part. The internal part is where I need help. I’m unsure of the nomenclature, but it is the plunger that presses the firing pins to the cocked position when the action is closed. I will try and attach a picture. I would like to either repair or replicate this part, but I am unsure of how the contact portion was shaped originally. Any help, pictures, or information on this part or gun would be greatly appreciated.

In its year and a half the Fox Gun Co., Balto., MD., U.S.A. made less than a thousand guns. Finding parts for a 122 year old gun of that limited production will be tough. I'm surprised you say 2 1/2 inch chambers. The guns I've had a chance to measure the chambers in had very long chambers for the 3 1/4 inch shells offered at that time.
I did an article on The Fox Gun Co., Balto., Md., U.S.A./Baltimore Arms Company in Volume 42, Number 9, February 1997, of The Gun Report.
Tom Kidd did an article on The Fox Gun Co., Balto., Md., U.S.A. in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Nine, Issue 4.

Researcher, thank you so much for the information. You may be right on the chambers, The 2.5 inch chambers is something I came across reading. I haven’t personally measured them, but that is first on my do-to list when I return home. As for the internal part, I understand a replacement part will not be possible. I am hoping to either micro tig the original back to spec, or completely replicate it. My dilemma is I am not sure or it’s original shape or dimensions. I am hoping to track down a picture. Thank you again for the information, I am looking forward to measuring the chambers now!
