Early Fox 12 gauge identification

Post by Birddog17! »

I am a brand new member to this site, I found it after purchasing a, what I believe is a very old Fox. Not sure anyone can help. The serial number on the trigger guard is # 2992, the # on the Forend is #2993 and the number stamped on the barrel is #2993 , the number stamped on the breach is 2993 A. What possible year could this be and where else should I be looking. I have read about Mr. Callahan, who has since required. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The working theory is that receivers with serial numbers 1 to 3000 were made for the A.H. Fox gun Co. when it was at Wayne & Bristol Streets during 1905 and most of 1906. We do find some guns in this serial number range that appear to have been finished after the move to the factory at North 18th Street & Windrim Avenue in late 1906. We'll need to see some good pictures of your gun to make any further assessment. It appears that when the next batch of 12-gauge receivers was forged the A.H. Fox Gun Co. began numbering them at 7000. The surviving production cards start at 9648, so everything about these early guns is speculation from years of observation.
