Fox Collectors

Frank, I'm hoping to shoot a round of clays tonight, so I grabbed a gun from my safe as I was leaving for work. While I had the safe open, I thought I would quickly check the pitch. I checked one Fox, and pitch was huge, like 5" or more. The next Fox was in the 3" - 4". range. Then I checked my Parker with the skeleton butt plate, and it was more like 2". All 3 guns have 28" barrels. I'll do a little better job of measuring when I'm not in a hurry to get to work, but I was amazed an the variation. Thinking about "pitch" and it's effect on shooting is going to keep me awake at night, and I already have difficulty sleeping.

Good post Frank. Out of all the dimensions on an old double, I feel the pitch may be the most important. We can always add a slip on pad for length, our mind can adjust our cheek weld if the DAH/DAC are not "perfect", but too much pitch just makes for poor mounts and painful shooting.
