I took the first picture of my boot by holding my phone/camera close to my boot. Initially, the forum said that the file was too large. I cropped it a little and our forum accepted it, and stated that the file was 4.3 (I thought it was 3.7)

I took the 2nd picture of my boot by”zooming up” on the boot to achieve roughly the same picture. The forum software indicated that the file size was 3.0.

The pictures appear to be similar, but the file sizes are significantly different. I guess I need a phone expert to explain how to take a good picture while keeping the file size down. It can’t be that complicated.

Sometimes my picture files are too large, and sometimes they work. For the most part I’ve learned to live with it.

I have an IPhone 16. If I go to “settings”, and then to “camera”, I have my phone set on HEIF because that setting provides good quality pictures at a smaller file size.

If a person has their phone set on “most compatible” I think the file size may be bigger. Again, this is out of my wheelhouse. Just trying to get to the root cause. Maybe Craig can explain it.

I cropped this picture I took this afternoon. Gonna see what happens when I post it. Also adjusted the light slightly. Not trying to make it look better. Just wanna see if it’s at 90 degrees like my last picture.

Nicely done, and that’s a fine picture. 26 minutes until the duck opener.

Nice picture Cory,

Great looking Fox there,

I like the threshing machine in the background, did you wonder close enough to see the make of the machine? Possibly a Frick??

Craig, in many ways the forum is the heart and soul of our organization and you do a great job maintaining its functionality. Personally, I don’t have the I.T. aptitude to offer suggestions on how to redesign it.

If a person is near their laptop, photos that are too large can easily be reduced (via the laptop) and posted on the forum. It takes a few steps, but most of us have figured it out.

Occasionally it’s fun to post pictures “in the field” as I have done in the past. I really enjoy sharing a morning in the duck blind as it happens. Many pictures can be posted in an unaltered state. However, sometimes the file is too large. If I can “crop” the picture to reduce the file size, I’ll do it. Unfortunately, sometimes this forces me edit out some of the surrounding detail, which may detract from the photo.

This morning I discovered a better solution. After doing a brief google search, I found an app. On my IPhone, I went to the App Store. In the search bar I typed Compressing Photos & Pictures. I then installed this app. This app can be used to reduce the size of all of your photos, or just ones that you select. I recommend doing one or two at a time. As a test, I selected two pictures that were two large, and reduced them to a manageable size. Just in case you were wondering, the original photos are still in my phone, and the new compressed ones have also been saved. I’ll now post the two pictures to check their clarity, and I’ll continue experimenting with this app, but to be honest, I seem to be getting a lot of “junk” in the process. I need to figure how to avoid advertisements for unwanted apps. Hopefully a few other members will try this app and find it beneficial. Incidentally, you still need to edit the picture to maintain the correct orientation. Jeff

It’s a little confusing because the app shows advertisements, but if you watch the bar on the top of the screen, notice the tiny icons, you can figure it out. There may be better apps, but I think this one might work.

Is that Rich's brother from another mother? I appreciate all that you have tried Jeff but it's still all Greek to me.

Sorry Daryl. I couldn’t find an app for your trusty flip phone, and that’s my brother (LOL).

Is that the one with the B grade? Even if you could find an app for my flip phone I still wouldn't know how to use it. 8)
