Researcher I posted on the Double gun form about Hollenbeck Gun Co. Fred Dewey. In your answer you had some really good info on Rudy K. his name come up in some of my paper work too. Can you give me anymore info on him or the Three barrels gun co.? Do you have any three barrel guns? I know you like Fox guns and so do I but these guns are so neat and the history on the Three Barrels gun Co. is too thanks for any info. Donnie Reels

About everything I know about Hollenbeck/Three-Barrel/Royal Gun Companies is in my two-part article, "When a New Yorker Made Guns in West Virginia" in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Thirteen, Issues 2 and 3. I have a late 12x12x.32-40 with no name and round breechballs, and a Royal Gun Co. single-barrel trap. From what I was told by my benefactor, Rudy was from West Virginia and moved to Florida to be a machinist at the Naval Air Station during WW-II and retired to his gun shop circa 1970. I was there going thru Officer Candidate School and Navigator School in 1969 and 1970, but these things were of no interest to me at that time.

Thanks so much for the info I called the DGJ when I read your post on double gun form. Did you ever look up in the DGJ the pic of Mr. Dewey? Like I said I have two drillings one double barrel shot marked Royal gun co. and Mr. Dewey drilling. I look forward to reading about these neat guns thanks Donnie.

I read the article on Mr. Dewey. There also is an article by Walter Snyder in one of the older DGJs on a Royal Gun Co. double. I'd love to find a nice Hollenbeck or Royal double. The Royal doubles and singles must have been in a different ledger as the ledger I have a copy of is just three-barrel guns and a very few hold-over doubles from Hollenbeck Gun Co.

Thanks for the respond I will try to find the DGJ on the Royal gun Co. My double barrel shotgun is marked Royal gun co. has 30" tubes marked Krupp fluid steel. I try to be careful with it as I do all my double guns it seem like it will kill ducks just like my 32" super fox. The Royal gun is choked full and extra full.

Also I have a parts list of all the parts that were on hand when the Royal gun Co. closed. There was some 20gage 32" double barrel tubes there I wood love to have one of long barrel 20. I think it said there were about 225 doubled but I will have to look.

During the Hollenbeck Gun Co. days their magazine ads said they made guns in 12-, 16-, 20- and 28-gauges, so I'm holding out for a Krupp barrel 28-gauge!! Otis Speiglemyre (sp) the Remington collector, had a Hollenbeck serial number 122 at a York, PA, gunshow years ago in 28x28x.22WCF, even though his tag said .22 Hornet!! A couple of years ago I saw the same gun again at Las Vegas sporting new case colors and all new finishes, and the tag also said .22 Hornet, however the price had increased exponentially.

Hey I just got back to my desk this morning. I looked up about the Royal Gun Co. double barrel shotgun. I am sorry about my numbers there were around or less than 1300 double guns maid by all three Co. and about 300 single trap guns. I once had a chance to buy a 28guage drilling but I didn't know about it one barrel was steel and the other was not. I had never seen no gun like that I thought they had busted one of the barrels but it looked factory and it was a high grade. What do you think? Donnie

That is 122. I always thought it might have been a salesman's sample showing both kinds of barrels.

That may have been it I just didn't know. The little gun was nice it came up for sale about two years ago. I talked to the man who had it he didn't know what happened but you may be correct.

Researcher I got the 2002 DGJ the other day and read on the Hollenbeck Gun Co. that was a nice high grade. I also read where you had a C grade in your hand and lost it well we all have done that. Thanks for all the info.
