Nash Buckingham Duck Call

Did you know Nash had his own line of duck calls? They are highly sought after by call collectors. I was able to add one to my collection of Reelfoot style calls recently.

Craig, thanks for sharing. I did not know that he had a line of Duck calls. Whenever I am at gun shows, swap meets, etc. I always look for unusual or cool duck calls and Turkey calls. While not an avid duck hunter they just are cool!!

I’d thought Buckingham was partial to I think they were called “Iverson calls” . The pictures I saw of them they had a bit of checkering on them .

Iverson starting making calls in NYC about 1945, he later moved to California. I'm unaware of any connection between Nash and Iverson. Iverson was a craftsman and made beautiful calls from Cocobolo, Ebony, Rosewood and Walnut, but no checkered calls that I am aware of.. He was know to be friends with Tom Turpin one of the great Reelfoot call makers. Iverson sold his calls through VL&A. I'm not sue if his calls are Reelfoot style or Arkansas style. Call collecting is a very interesting subject for us waterfowlers interested in old duck guns, old wooden decoys and vintage calls.

I believe you are thinking of Perry Hooker, Nash wrote of his calling, call making and tuning expertise.

The most notable "Checkered" Calls of Nash's time would have been those of American Bottoms' ILL transplant to Reelfoot Lake's Starve Island Camp Victor Glodo Jr.

Like the one that Remington Trapshooting Pro and Salesman H. D. "Jake" Gibbs used and gave to Tom Curry another Remington shooter which made it's way through the Cochrane Family of some call making fame and into the Collection of Howard Harlan who pictured it in his books on Calls and Call making.

I'll see if I can find a picture of both the Hooker and Glodo calls that are most famous.

That call is a Tom May.

Russell's Carved Perry Hooker looks more like the famous Beckeart carved calls and i don't have a photo of it on my computer.

AIR, one of my best sources of information on old duck calls and their makers is the great book The Golden Age of Waterfowling, by Wayne Capooth.
