I am loking at a 311 410 with the original walnut stock. When did Stevens make this gun with walnut?

Look at the bottom of the action near the hinge pin; you may see a small stamped oval with a letter and a number inside. The date code started with A in 1949, B = 1950, etc; that will give you the year it was made. Later guns had serial numbers (after 1968 I think). If there's no date code stamp or serial number it's probably pre-1949. Not sure when they stopped using walnut; I have a 20ga 311A from 1962 and it's walnut. Just sold a 311H in .410 that was probably made around 1970; it was birch or some other wood and the stain was more like paint; pretty ugly.
