$50 flea market early Fox A Grade shotgun

Post by orpington »

I mentioned this one in another thread. I paid $50 for this one at a flea market about 12 years ago. Safety is locked in place, a few years ago tried to disassemble it but couldn’t get the screw out even with Kroil.

One of the early A Grades which were the plain Jane types.

Any comments? An okay purchase, good purchase, overpriced? Obviously, not a beauty queen.

Hit the screw with a couple of seconds with a Bernz -O- Matic and then douche it with PB Blaster and let it sit overnight. I bet it turns the morning after. Kevin

Well, you could post a couple of pictures and provide the serial number. I’m sure someone would offer an opinion.

Go to our home page and look under Grades for information; go to Blue Book of Gun Values for approximate values per age and gondition. Also check out Guns International. Kevin

PS - Did you ever get the screw out??

It appears to be an A-Grade from 1907, but it appears to have been restocked by Savage at some time.

Does that kill the value?
How do you find a value on a mix matched firearm?

Yes, it hurts the value, but the reality is that particular grade of gun in that condition even if it had the original stock wouldn't have a lot of value. IMO and FWIW, if that gun was put on Gunbroker it might bring between 4 and 5 hundred dollars. I'm basing that on what I've been seeing lately.
