Little Model 17

What a dandy little gun !! Remington Model 17 E Grade 20ga.... 5# 13oz. Model 17 production was from 1921-1933. This gun handles like a slender wand. I havent found what this gun retailed for new back in the late 20's but I'd like to know to compare it to a graded AH Fox 20ga. It's something to think that such nice guns (Remington & Savage/AH Fox)were made here in the Mohawk Valley of NYS with Ilion & Utica about 12 miles apart.

Well boys, thanks to our everhelpful friend Brother Noreen I have the retail pricing info out of his 1926 EK Tryon catalog. The Remington M17 E grade was listed at $225.00. Seems that would put it squarely between a AH Fox XE and DE. Pretty impressive to me.

Yes Craig, in my collecting experience the E (Expert Grade) grade Remingtons are the fewest in all of their high grade offerings.

Tom, I had an E Grade 141, sold it. It seems to be the only one they ever made. It was an Ennis gun.

Anybody know the status of the late Gene Myskowski's book on Remington engraving?

I dont Dave. I was speaking with Gene & Roy every so often about it before Gene passed. A gun that I had made for myself in the Custom Shop was slated to be in the book.

I spoke with Mike Alsop, RSA Vice President, a few days before the Baltimore Show, regarding the publication of this book and his outlook on the fate of all things Remington in general. Mike said that the book was "temporarily on hold" due to "other pressing RSA matters." This is the exact same response I got from him a year ago at the VA Gun Collector's show in Manassas, which tells me nothing much has changed since then. He said RSA's repeated attempts to dialog with the new Remington owners have met with no response. Since the Ilion plant closed on 1 March, there has been no contact whatsoever, so no projected date for the publication of the book has been volunteered, which is most unfortunate. Kevin

I my opinion Remington engraving and craftsmanship on D's, E's and F's is among the best of any AMERICAN built gun, sxs, pumps or autos. I'm amazed how under appreciated they are in the market today. If you have not seriously ever considered graded Remington shotguns take a look and I promise you will be impressed.

Thanks for sharing, not many High Grade 17's hit the open market.

The earliest Expert Grades in the Autoloding Shotgun and Rifle and the Repeating Shotgun (Model 1908) only had a game scene on the left side of the reviever with greater coverage of Scroll Engraving than the Tournament (D Grade or No. 4's) on the Right or ejection port side of the Autoloaders.
