The LC Smith Hunter-One trigger was based on the Lard Patent single trigger that was already in use for some years on English Westley Richard guns. Here's a news clip dated September 1904. I have another reference, letter dated June 1905, stating its writer had used the Lard W-R single trigger "for three years now". Personally I doubt SxS single triggers were intro'd mainly in response to popular single trigger, single barrel guns like the 1897 Winchester pump gun. Probably very few 97's were to be seen on driven hunts in the British Isles.

Savage briefly offered the non-selective single trigger. It was introduced on the June 21, 1932, price lists with the new SP-/SPE-Grades. It was offered as a $10 option on any grade in the March 15, 1933, and the March 1, 1934, Price lists.
On another single trigger point, look at the pictures of Brian's 16-gauge SPE-Grade Skeet & Upland Game Gun.

There appears to be a small pin in the trigger plate to the left of the trigger. None of my Fox-Kautzky Single Selective Trigger guns have that?
