Two favorites and a newcomer

Finally ..... some decent sunny weather today and I had some fun shooting a 20, 28 and 410. Variety can be the spice of life.

Left is a favorite Winchester Model 12 in 20 bore, earlier nickel steel version with 28-inch barrel and solid rib. Right is one of my Winchester Model 42's in 410 gauge, 26" barrel with Modified choke. As many know, besides Foxes I'm partial to pre-64 Winchester pump guns, and both performed well.

Center is a new to me CZ Bobwhite G2 in 28 bore. This is the special "Project Upland" edition with sideplates, hand engraving and most all the features I value in an upland bird gun. She has 28" tubes, double triggers with plenty of space between them, extractors, high and wide sighting plane rib, independent safety and straight grip stock with higher/longish dimensions. As supplied with 5 flush choke tubes. She didn't disppoint me with I-Mod and Full chokes for her first foray on the sporting course.

Very nice, Frank. We share an enthusiasm for small bores. One day I may own a M 42 with a 28" barrel and a top rib. I'm thinking early season doves would not like it, at all.

I like the small bores, 12ga/3-inch Special Long Range guns, Short 10's, classic single and double-trap guns, Winchester pump guns, honest Sterlies, Winchester 101’s ..... none of mine are dust catchers and I get ‘em out shooting. Though after mixing and matching since last hunting seasons I have to get in serious tune with my CE Fox "Matilda" for the upcoming shoots at the Northeast SxS (Hausmann's) about 3 weeks hence and the Northern SxS at Rock Mountain in July. frank

I’m a lifelong fan and shooter of the Model 12’s. I have a 28” field 12ga(1941), 12ga solid rib Skeet(1952), and a 28” field 20ga(1963). They are all superb shooters. If I’m not shooting one of my SxS’s….It’s surely one of my Model 12’s.

I'm not to into the pumps but always willing to make exceptions.

Especially if they have decent wood attached.
This model 12 Trap will be a newcomer
It was made in 1930
It does have a very early poly choke
But should be quite handy.

Looks like a nice one! Love those straight grip Model 12’s. Very few things nicer shooting-wise than to squad a good sporting clays shooter fielding a favorite Model 12, with equally good shooters using B or K or P gun over/unders. Those old Model 12’s can still dance with the best.

The checkering looks correct to me and I've heard the traps came with nice wood but that's about all in my limited knowledge base so far.

IMO the checkering pattern is not right nor is the nose of the comb. Also, from your pictures the wood appears to have been overly sanded and fitting well below the metal of the receiver, rather than a bit proud as Winchester would have done it.

For 1930, the STANDARD TRAP replaced the old TOURNAMENT GRADE and essentially what had been the TRAP GRADE became the SPECIAL TRAP GRADE.
