LC Smith VR Double Trap Gun
93 years old and going strong .....
I want to share some pics of this LC Smith Specialty Grade Double Trap gun: 12 ga/32-inch, Vent Rib, auto ejectors, beavertail forend and Hunter One single/selective trigger. Originally shipped in September 1930 and now restored, reportedly by the Pachmayr Custom Shop before it closed almost 40 years ago. Wood is California English and she's choked Heavy Modified and Full. Check out the reddish leather covered pad and the skeleton grip cap. A nice warmish day today and she did 50 sporting clays, placing second of seven shooters in the gang with 46 ex 50.
Kind of neat considering that five of the other six shooters including Ed the high gun were fielding modern competition gas semi-autos or over/unders.

Beauty of a gun! The tree that made the stock showed it’s beauty for sure!

Frank, that is a really well-done restoration/custom job. I love the case colors and the figure in the stock. The cherry on top for me is the skeleton grip cap, very classy.

Re: LC Smith VR Double Trap Gun
Thanks all. Answers to questions: stock is 1-9/16 by 2-1/2 by 14-5/8" LOP over the pad, just about perfect for me on a sporting clays gun. On the third pic, that "joint" on the barrel rib a few inches ahead of the breech is a precious metal inlay - white gold or maybe platinum - as done by LCS on its Specialty Grade guns which were about on par with Fox C-Grade. I know that some Hunter One triggers have been goofed up by amateurs trying to rework their pulls or when restocked, but this is the sixth LCS with Hunter One I've owned over the years and all worked well with a positive trigger pull (not just a touch). From what I understand the Laird Patent trigger (Hunter One on LCS guns) was used by Westley Richards on its high end shotguns. I doubt many country estate Brits would put up with trigger issues on their WR guns. . frank

Re: LC Smith VR Double Trap Gun
Looking at the old pictures on the club house walls at the late lamented old Spokane Gun Club, the shooters with doubles were virtually all holding fully optioned L.C. Smiths or fully optioned Ithaca NIDs.
