Info requested on A model

Post by Edjr »

Hi everyone,

I inherited the Fox model A from my father. It's been in the family since my great grandfather purchased it. I know little about the Fox guns but am learning much more reading about them on this site. My guns serial is 2932 as you can see in the pictures. It seems in good shape for being over 100 years old but I would appreciate any thoughts and comments on what I've posted. It is in need of repairs - I haven't disassembled it yet but I can see the sear pins are both broken. I'm hoping that's the only issues. While I have a reasonable mechanical skill I'm no gunsmith. Would this be a job I could handle or would you recommend I take this to a good gunsmith?

Any thoughts on value of this gun?

thanks for all who comment.....

Ed.

What do you mean? There is a single pin the sears are mounted on. The red arrow points to the sear pin, the green arrow the hammer pin --

Far better off to let a qualified gunsmith evaluate the gun, not Joe Shit the 870 parts replacer.

Well worn A-Grade with a replacement stock, its market isn't going to reach four figures.

If you decide you want to take it apart yourself, this is the step by step to do it. Having the right screwdriver bit as mentioned is the right way to go. Go slow.

Thanks researcher - Well, I think I used the wrong term here - I believe it's the sears that are broken as you point out the pins are in place.

Curious how you can tell it's a replacement stock?

I can see just enough of the grip checkering in your pictures to know its not original.

Ah, I see. It's definitely not the same. Thank you.
