Lilah's first bird

Post by grouse_fan »

Lilah's first bird wasn't a grouse, like I hoped, but it was an awesome moment.
I started the day hunting grouse with Koal the Doodle. We put up 2 grouse at the first spot, but I wasn't able to connect. We then went looking for woodcock. I was able to connect on the 1st bird but whiffed on the second. We had an unexpected grouse flush, and I never fired a shot at it. I just watched it fly away. After the excitement with Koal, I decided to take Lilah for her second hunt. My plan was to hit a spot for woodcock. We end up moving 8 woodcock and 2 grouse. She ran past the 1st grouse, and it flushed as she tried to slam on the breaks. I did take a shot. She had a good point on the 2nd grouse, but it flushed before I could get to it. Lilah had 3 solid points on woodcock. Unfortunately, I was only able to connect on one. She didn't great on single birds but got a little out of control when we got into multiple birds.
It was a good day https://i.ibb.co/MGf2YgY/20221028-161305.jpg]

Nice picture. My late Setter, Skitso, never grasped the concept of posing for a photo. Always wanted to be off after the next bird.

Good looking pup. Is that a English Setter or a Llew?

IMO they have some of the best dogs on the planet. Never heard of one that doesn't do a great job. How hold is the little lady?

That's fantastic. My little girl Sophie is a Llew also out of the old Lynnhill lines in Pa. Lynnhill is long gone, but there are still some good Llew breeders out there. Cash setters is another one I hear good things about and Eric Jacobson has a good line as well. Jorando is another.
