Woo Hoo 34” Fox at the Northeast SxS
Just got word that a “Dark Horse” but well known vintage SxS man will be bringing the subject gun in this link to the Northeast SxS later this week. Show & tell & learn. One of two (I believe) Foxes made with righteous 34” barrels. Members know this gun was talked up recently on one of our private Members forums.

The gent said the box was delivered today and he may not have time to unpack before heading East but will bring it regardless. He also told me he signed up for the AHFCA recently but hasn’t received his members packet as yet. Probably our Bishop Tool Man will bless his membership while at the event!

I hope to read more about this gun. Long barreled double guns are my forte. Long barreled Foxes are what dreams are made of.
Thanks for the heads up, Frank. Wish I could be there in person to see it. I hope some provenance can be "drummed up". Sure would love to know the background on this gun.

Re: Woo Hoo 34” Fox at the Northeast SxS
Several of us looked at the 34" A Grade today, and with the owner's permission I took some extensive macro pics. It has some hunting wear but is basically honest. I’ll post some pics when I have more time; tough posting anything while involved in an event and busy afterwards. The gun points like a dream to this guy. Barrels have no weight stamps but aren't that heavy. Most interesting to me is that the barrel legends in German read rustproof steel (English translation) and "Bohler", also is stamped “Made in Austria” in English on the long reinforced forend lug, but it has a regular Phila Fox Proof/oval mark and is absent a plethora of the typical Euro water table and lower barrel breech stamps. Seems to me that Fox assembled the barrels using imported Bohler tubes, but why not put the Bohler markings on the bottom as Fox did with Krupp steel markings? Incidentally on close inspection the word Bohler as written here actually has the German umlaut above the “o”.
Right now the owner is leaning toward restoration. frank

Re: Woo Hoo 34” Fox at the Northeast SxS
In many ways this year's Northeast SxS was one of the very best Fox Events I can remember! Many thanks to our leaders and members who stepped up to make that happen.
Here I want to report on my tech inspection of the 34" Fox serial # 21193.
The first two pics were taken this afternoon at our Bo-Whoop shooting butt. Some members will recognize the new and happy 34" Fox owner is Randy Roberts, a well known Parker man who's passionate about shooting and long barreled Parkers. First one shows Randy shooting the 34-incher and if you expand the pic you'll see that he's the epitome of the old saying "cheek on the stock, eye on the rock". For those unfamilar, rock refers to Blue Rocks - an older/traditional term for clay targets. Second pic shows Randy on the left, then our Steve 'Tool Man" at the clicker and Don "Kimber06" doing the scoring.
For those interested, specs on the 34" barrels are: bores REALLY tight at .715/717", chokes 28 and 30 points (3/4 choke in vintage parlance), choke length about 4-1/2" full tapered, and 2-7/8" chambers. Although this gun shows hunting wear, all considered I'd bet she was originally ordered as a Live Bird gun. Those 34" tubes are light and lively! Regarding the tight bores, these are the smallest 12-gauge I recall measuring on an American SxS and that reminded me of something I heard years ago from an older and very good live bird shooter, how many into that sport liked tight bores for a longer shot string. Yeah I know that's contrary to the hype on short shot string with overbored barrels. etc.
Thanks again to our new member Randy for making his special Fox available for display and tech inspection.

I held this girl with long long legs. Quite an amazing gun for sure.
Re: Woo Hoo 34” Fox at the Northeast SxS
Randy for sure is a long barrel aficionado and a good friend. I can’t think of a more worthy owner of a 34” Fox!
Having said that the target in the 1st pic looks to be unharmed.

The Bo-Whoop presentation was 5 simo pairs and in that pic Randy had probably taken the C bird first, the B bird is overhead for the second shot.

Re: Woo Hoo 34” Fox at the Northeast SxS
Hello everyone and special thanks to Frank, Steve, Craig, Kevin and all of those who have expressed interest in this gun and helped in looking it over to determine originality etc. It's a very special gun to me and one that fits nicely into my accumulation. She remains "almost" unmolested from the day she was born. The card indicates the LOP was originally 14 5/8" with a Monte Carlo stock, the stock has now been cut but not to the point that the Monte has been removed, they stopped just short of that. The card goes on to indicate "No Safety". As she sits today the safety has been reinstalled with a Fox slide. My plans are to leave it as is vs a complete restoration. Most likely I will take it to the Rock at the end of July and then send it off for a good cleaning, clean up a couple of screw heads, and possibly remove the safety to get it back to factory. Thanks again to everyone !
