New gun, not sure what to do with it.

I was given a this gun recently and not sure what to do with it so looking for opinions. It is a 12 Guage A grade, series number in the 26,xxxs. I took it to a gunsmith and the told me the left hammer was broken and would need replaced but they didn't want to do the repair...OK whatever. Gun is definitely used and obviously in need of repair. I have a safe full of 12 gauges and every in working condition I'd never use this. I guess my question is, should I sell as is or try and get it fixed before selling? Also, what would the values be both ways roughly?

You are going to have to give us a lot more information on your gun if you want a realistic assessment of what you have.

Is it a standard A grade without ejectors or is it an AE with ejectors.

How about the barrel length and chokes, how are the bores, any dents, bulges or pits, solid and firm top and bottom ribs?

How is the wood, length of pull from the front trigger to the center of the back of the butt plate? Has it been poorly refinished, cut or and small cracks or splits?

Test the trigger pull and SAFE with empty shells in the chambers. Do both hammers have a nice crisp snap when you pull front and back trigger. Gunsmith said the left was broke - is it really. Look and see. You can dry fire it with the barrels and fore end off the frame. Are the firing pins extending into the standing breech after the triggers are pulled.

Does the gun lock up tight with no movement between the barrels and frame with the action open and closed.

It is a regular A, no electors.

Barrel length is 28". Top and bottom ribs appear firm and solid. Attaching pictures looking down the barrel. Not sure about chokes but dropped a dime in the left barrel and it hung up about an inch or so before the end, attached a picture. Dime passed all the way through the right barrell.

Wood has some dents and scratches but no cracking or splitting. LOP is 14.5" from front trigger to center of butt plate.

SAFE does not appear to work as the right hammer still goes off either setting. Left hammer is for sure broke, they removed it and I've attached a picture. Left pin is extended but right is not after firing.

Attaching pictures for reference to answers. Also forgot to mention there is a 3 stamped on the bottom, both 2 3/4" and a 3" shell fit in the chamber and barrel closed tight.

Thanks for the additional info.

It looks like it's been restocked, barrels cut, pitted bores, maybe the chambers lengthened and the left hammer is broke.

Your gun doesn't have much going for it.

Value: in my opinion, maybe a couple hundred bucks. Others may think that's too low. Or??

Any other opinions?

You can get an order card on it I'm thinking and see how it left the factory. Regarding chamber length, a chamber length gauge will confirm what you have. Far as I remember a 3" shell will still fit in the chambers and you can close the action even if it is short chambered. Yep, that's a sterly stock.

The "3" stamp has nothing to do with chamber length. Clean the barrels before photographing the bores.

The 3 is the weight of the rough barrel tubes. A.H. Fox Gun Co. used 12-gauge barrel tubes in weights from the heaviest 1, through 2, 3 to 4 the lightest. Circa 1922-3 they added even heavier 0 weight barrels for the HE-Grade Super-Fox. The gun for sure left North 18th Street & Windrim Avenue with 2 5/8 inch chambers intended for 2 3/4 inch shells.
