Upgrade of Philadelphia AE Grade Fox 12 Gauge
Upgrade of Philadelphia AE Grade Fox 12 Gauge
I have recently acquired a very early Philadelphia Fox AE Grade with a factory kautzky single trigger sn21402. The gun was meticulously upgraded to its current "FE Special" configuration. I'm interested in finding out who the owner was who had this upgrade completed and who the craftsmen were who performed this unbelievable upgrade. Any information would be appreciated. The gun has a straight grip stock, extra dark exhibition grade circassian walnut (not Turkish). Fully engraved skeletonized butt plate with perfectly time screws, fine scroll, and exacting gold work. Thanks for any responses. Bear

Someone dropped some coin on that one. Hard to believe the engraver didn't sign it somewhere. Check around the bottom of the frame near the triggerguard.

Looks like a beautiful gun! I’m w/Tom…some serious money was spent on the upgrade. Could you post pics of the stock so we can see the pattern and checkering? Thnx!

No engraver's signature suggests that this may be one of the wonderful fakes (not upgrades) marketed by Tom Gibbons, often represented as originals. The identity of his workmen is probably known by some collectors, but not me.

Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance
Not that we haven't seen the same thing out of engravers from North 18th Street and Windrim Avenue.
