Another 20 Ga Sterlingworth Project started.

Post by Brian »

Started a new 20 project.
Had a Sterlingworth Ejector gun with cut barrels, bad stock, no color. a train wreck. So it resided on a back shelf until I could fid a set of barrels for it. one of our members graciously offered me a 28" ejector set at a very reasonable price and I purchased them from him. The barrels are almost a perfect fit, only will require a little filing to let them down into the action for the top ever to close to the appropriate degree. The lever starts to close so they are very close to perfection.
I purchased a nice blank from a wood dealer on the advise of the person who sold me the barrels.
Basic outline of the project:
fit barrels, ensure ejectors work properly,
anneal action and clean off old engraving, prep for stocking and engraving. rebate rear of receiver
straight grip conversion
long tang trigger guard
restock i straight grip style
horn buttplate
twin ivories

Ill post stock blank pictures soon.

Well, I think this will be an outstanding project when completed. I know a bit about this as Brian and I have spoken about it. Gonna be another special one for sure. As usual I love to see what members come up with when it comes to Foxes.

That's gonna be nice, Brian! Who have you chosen to do the case hardening, and hard-fitting afterward?

as you can tell, this is a grouse themed gun.
And since I am a springer man, I felt that Springers should be the dog of choice for the game scenes.
I am doing the receiver in French gray, because that, in my opinion, shows the engraving much better than case color. And this engraving needs to be seen in its entirety.
I expect to have the gun back within the next 90 days and will post pictures of the completed project
