So whats on your 2021 Fox shopping list??

Post by fox-admin »

I hesitate saying this but I really am satisfied with my Fox collection and would be hard pressed to sell one to buy one. I have shot them all in 2020 and plan to do the same starting with the new year. If a XE 22xxx head down XE came to market I would be very tempted or a 12ga DE second generation 12ga. I am still holding out hope for HE-C 31736 engraved with ducks!!
As we all know sometimes we don't know we desire a gun until one comes to market that just flots your boat!!
How about you???

Grade CE or XE 20 or 16 gauge with a K trigger is on my shopping list. Even a fixer upper would be fine as I would have no problem in restocking or whatever else was required to make it right assuming of course the barrels are good. 28" barrels would be my choice. I don't have a single trigger Fox and always wanted one with a single trigger to use late in the season when I have to wear gloves.

PS. When I first got interested in Foxes many years ago, my dream gun was a CE 20 gauge. They were running about 5 to 6K and then the MM book was published and small bore Foxes seemed to double overnight. I found one a few years ago that was on Gunbroker that was actually a local gun (well about 2 hours away driving). Went and looked at that gun and thought it was an absolute dog. Was fine with the dog part, but the barrels were a bit too thin IMO and that made me back away. That gun was sold to a rather well known Fox dealer for 5K as I recall. It was listed for sale about a year later for I believe over 12K and sold. As I recall it also had the K trigger.

Tom good luck with your search. Only 8 20ga CE were made with K single triggers, and of the 8 only 3 had barrels longer than 26".

I'd love to find a late BE or CE,16 or 20, with good 32" barrels and original chokes. I'd like it to be good enough original condition that I wouldn't mind leaving it as is. This is more of a wish list, for me, than a shopping list, because I'm not actively seeking one. I'm always interested in nice 32" barreled small bores.

Picking out a Fox is like picking out the right wife. You don't know exactly what it's going to look like, but you 'll know it when you see it. :)

Interesting. I don't have the serial number, but about 3 years ago there was a single trigger CE 16 gauge with 30" barrels that showed up on one of the auction sites. I called on the gun and got some information, but it became apparent quickly that the gun had some fairly significant issues. Accordingly I passed on the auction, but did tell a friend that it was for sale and gave him the item number etc. Anyway, the auction closed and my friend was the number 2 bidder. A few weeks later I got a call from the seller who told me that the auction winner had returned the gun because it had to many issues. He wanted to know if I wanted the gun and I had decided it would require too much work and passed on the gun, but did tell the seller (Pawn shop in Ca as I recall) that my friend was the second highest bidder and I would pass him the pawn shops telephone number and he could call if interested.

Long story short is my friend bought the gun from the pawn shop at a reduced price and had it send directly to Dan Rossiter. I saw the gun at Dan Rossiters the following spring and it certainly needed work. Neither Dan or I had ever seen a gun that far off face, a real wobbler as I call them. Also the barrels didn't ring and as I recall one of the ribs might have been sprung. The good news were the bores were good. That gun is currently in process of being restored. One of the last guns Dan will do as he had a few that G&H said he could continue to work on to clear up his backlog. Anyway, when all is said and done it will be a rather nice gun to say the least, because Dan does great work and it probably is a fairly rare gun as well.

I have my fair share of wonderful Foxes. My shopping list for 2021 would include the name of a very talented gunsmith who could solve some of my project problems. I would rather hear from a person who could solve my problems rather than a reference, although references would be welcome.

I have to thank Tom for the heads up on that gun . Dan now has two of my CE 16 gauge 30" guns he is completely redoing , one single trigger and one double trigger . Should be quite the pair when done .
Thanks again Tom,
Al

Bobby, how many of the great Fox guns you tell us about do you still have? Or did you put all the profits into tractors?

Bobby did you own this one at some point? It looks like something is off, but I can't put my finger on it. PS. This is from several years ago (I think).
