Did my part for social distancing today in Va. Anyway, had the gun for more then a few years and actually almost sold it to a board member recently. Then I tried to imagine trying to find another Philly 30" ejector 16 gauge sterly and drew a blank. Decided to hang onto it and today I took it out. Va bird taken with RST number 6, 1 oz loads. Was fun. Came to the decoys and then got a tad spooky and then for some reason started heading my way. Big mistake for him. 12 yards shoot em in the face as they say. He went down in a heap. Nice bird indeed. 18 lb 15 oz, 10.5" beard and 5/8" spurs. Second bird this year. Other one was taken with my 870 20 gauge.

Pic was taken a mile outside of Strasburg Va just west of Interstate 81. Well was located on the farm I hunt and I believe that is Great North Mountain in the distance as the camera was pointed west at the time. Killed a lot of birds on that property as well as more then a few deer. Here's another pic without my mug in it.
Nice Tom and thanks for taking the time to post. A noble bird and it sure sounds like a great hunt. Question on that 16b Sterly Ejector. Is that the gun I saw one time at Dan and Anthony's gunsmithing shack out near Le Raysville? A flashback reminded me that was a 16b Sterly with 30-inch heavier-weight tubes and that we'd posted on it at that time.

Don't believe so Frank. I bought this one off Gunbroker a good many year ago, but I think Dan was in solo mode by that time. I bought it and the barrels had been dropped and hit on perhaps concrete on the breech end. Required a mico-weld repair which was done by Glenn Fewless. Dan then struck them down as required to clean them up and re-rust blued them. Only thing else done to the gun was I added a 1/2" thick Hawkins Rifle Heart Pad to give it a bit more length. I've dove hunted with in in the past and somewhere on the forum is a picture of this gun with a limit of doves.
I had a 30" Fox Sterlingworth non-ejector that I also owned for a while and sold it after I got this one. Dick Miter bought it and Dan R. turned it into a straight grip and I think it was engraved etc. Dick shoots it all the time, and I'm sure you have seen that gun. The only ejector 30" 16 gauge I've held other then this one was located by me about 12 years ago in Va and it was pretty much mint. Seller (Dominion Guns located in Winchester Va) wanted $3,200 for it and I decided that was a bit rich for my blood.
Great pics and thread, Tom. Those 30" 16 ga. Foxes are kinda special, aren't they? My 30" 16 ga. AE is at Dewey's now to have a barrel/forend lug replaced which broke on a dove shoot last season. Sure hope I get it back before September.
