New A grade.
New A grade.
About a month ago I received a phone call from fellow forum and board member Silvers about a nice little 20bore A that he had run across local to him. Silvers being the long barreled sporting shooter didnt have much need for a short barreled smallbore and thought I might be interested. I made a trip up to NE. Pennsylvania to inspect this little rascal and could not believe my eyes when I first looked at the gun. The gun is just about the cleanest little A I have ever come across. I decided I could not live without it so a deal was made.
The specs are 20 bore A grade with 26" bbls choked m/f with semi pistol grip,14 1/8 lop 2 7/8" DH. The gun is an early Savage gun(Hang tag) although it has all philly markings and appears to be 100% Philly vintage.
The story that came with the gun was that it came from a local estate and was bought new and hunted rabbits one time. I will post some additional pics under the A grade section. I have to give special thanks to Silvers for the tip and I owe him big time!! Paul

Congrats Foxist. If you had not purchased I was dancing a jig to grab this one. Great looking 20 ga! If any other member knows of/stumbles upon/has one that they would like to be rid of, I am definitely in the market for an A grade 20 ga. My email is mc15426378@comcast.net or a PM is always ok.

Thanks for a tip of the hat, Foxist. Glad to help. Your story underscores one of the benefits of being a Fox Collector member, meeting up and talking with fellow members to get to know each other and what we all like.
Good story but I have to add the part you left out, all the heavy breathing on the other end of the phone when I called about the rascal Silvers

I might have scored a perfect ten on "Dancin with the Stars" when I got this rascal!

I dont think this gun will make it into the Grouse Coverts with me it is just too nice. I have a 12 bore in the same condition and I can not bring myself to bring it afield. I think it is good to keep a couple benchmark guns in near new shape for collector examples. I think she has been a "Closet Queen" all these years I might as well keep up the tradition. I have two other A grade 20's I hunt quite often.

I have been known to get a little excited about high condition guns
Thanks again! and I will keep my eye out for some long Foxes. Paul

Foxist,
I thing I would do the same. I just need a couple of 20 gauge hunters .
I had bad fall last week and cracked the stock on my 16 gauge A grade ( 60 something heads are more forgiving that 80 something butt stocks) so I am looking for a fill in until I get a proper repair.
