New Fox member
Greetings to all from a new member. I recently purchased # 301401, 16 ga, 26" barrels, IC/Mod. Not perfect but a lot of character. No barrel numbers that I can see. Can anyone suggest someone to handle barrel bluing? I also would like suggestions on cleaning/polishing the receiver. Coloring is almost 100% gone. Thanks in advance for your input and looking forward to being a member.

Mike, welcome on board. Nice gun! Personally I wouldn't touch that Chromox receiver. If it were my gun I'd probably get the pad replaced with a period Hawkins (just saw a bunch of NOS ones while at the Vintage Cup), or possibly a genuine or repro Silvers. The barrels don't look that bad in your pics but if you want to get them done, scroll down to my thread on the Sterlingworth straight grip clone and talk with Anthony or Dan at the number shown. I have no personal interest in their business; just that I've been happy with the work they've done for me. Frank

Thanks Frank. Yes that nasty pad has got to go. Ordered a repro Silvers yesterday from Galazan. I'm debating on the barrels as she is only original once. The blue is worn on the barrels from handling/time but not horrible. I'm also rolling around in my gray matter getting a second forearm done as a semi BT as i love the way those look. Any suggestions?

Hello Mike, just got back from a trip out to PGS to drop off some stuff. I assume it was you who called while I was there? Dan told me the gent had a nice southern accent
On the semi BT, you can always get one made and keep the original wood to revert down the road. Whoever does the work, be sure to ask them to make the new BT to work without having to modify the barrel loop or the forend latch. The Silvers repro pads work out well but the color is more orange than the original pad. Also, IMO the plug holes in the back are a bit large for a smallbore frame Fox. But they do look much better than a modern vent pad. Frank

Welcome to our ever-growing, slightly disfunctional family, Mike....lol.
Just my 2 cents.....those stains and blemishes on the barrels, flow from the very essence of the hunter in all of us; blood, sweat and probably a few tears. They all combine to create that magical "THG" (time -honored glow) that is next to impossible to reproduce. Stick a Silvers pad on her and leave her be.

On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....
