Fox choke measurements
Fox choke measurements
On a 12 ga Fox Skeet and Upland Game Gun when they referred to the left barrel choked "quarter choke" and the right barrel choked "skeet cylinder", what would these actually measure with a bore gauge? And how long would they be?
Thanks for any info on this.

James Orr

Re: Fox choke measurements
The Skeet Cylinder is very much like Winchester's WS-1 or Remington's SKEET choke of the 1930s and 40s. About .005" or .006" choke about 1 1/4 inch back from the muzzle then a flare of ten thousandths to the muzzle. Ithaca Gun Co. had drawings of such a choke, but I've not found it when measuring chokes in Ithaca doubles choke marked S and S.
The 1/4 choke is about .010" normal taper. More open then Winchester's WS-2 or the left barrel of the Ithaca skeet guns in my collection.

Reseacher,
Just measured it. Right =.004 no flare, Left=.009, choke length 1 1/2 inches. Sound correct or messed with. Bore dia .734.

Re: Fox choke measurements
I'll have to say that I haven't measured enough Fox skeet guns to say definitively. I can say that both of my 12-gauge Skeet & Upland Game Guns have bores of .728". My 16-gauge Skeet & Upland Game Gun letters from John Callahan to be skeet cylinder and 1/4 choke, but the chokes actually measure .009" and .017" with conventional tapers?!?
Marshfellow has probably owned/looked at more Fox skeet guns then anyone else, hopefully he will chime in here.

Re: Fox choke measurements
Felt left out so I dug up my Callahan letter and actual choke dimensions on my 16 ga. SKUGG - Letter says "Skeet Cylinder" R, 1/4 L". Actual measurements are .005 and .011. Look out grouse!! K. Forgot to note mine is also a 26-incher.

Re: Fox choke measurements
I almost bought one a few years ago like that and I thought it had cut barrels because the choke length was like that. What is the length of the barrels?James Orr wrote:Reseacher,

Re: Fox choke measurements
I had a 16 S/U and you could look at the muzzles and see the flare on the right barrel choke. Bobby

Re: Fox choke measurements
Only a letter would confirm it for sure. If the right choke doesn't flare, the barrel ends don't touch and the chokes are only 1.5" long I'd be suspicious.James Orr wrote:Barrel length is 26 inches exactly.
