Tightest 16 gauge choke constriction
In prep for the upcoming turkey season, I measured two different 16 gauge Sterly's I have (both 30") and they both had choke constrictions at .035. That seemed amazingly tight. Was wondering if anyone had anything tighter out there. PS. Yes I'm bored and I've heard birds are gobbling all over Va. 72 degrees on Feb 20th and supposed to be even warmer later in the week. Dogs are already panting. This isn't right.

My 16-gauge, 32-inch, A-Grade, is .035" in the right and .034" in the left. I own a 20-gauge Ithaca with more choke.

I've heard you Michigan folks have a pile of birds up there. Here in Va. Not so much. I went to Maine few years ago and the lower parts were overrun with turkey's. That said the most birds I've ever seen in my life (and I'm old) was in Rock Springs Texas at a farm we used to have permission to hunt (now sold). One morning at dawn after fly down next to a stock tank I counted 64 strutting gobblers. Most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life as far as turkey hunting goes. Most ducks I ever saw were in Montana while pheasant hunting. Sky was black with them over a pretty good size lake. I don't count Geese, there's a bunch of those around in lots of places.Jeff S wrote:Hey Tom, these guys were looking for you last Sunday.

Re: Tightest 16 gauge choke constriction
My 16 ga AE with 32" tubes has .031 in both barrels. I do have a Husqvarna model 52 hammer gun with .036 choke, both barrels.
Re: Tightest 16 gauge choke constriction
I have had several 16ga Fox guns, I use a Stan Baker internal bore gauge....If they are choked x-full the norm is .035 or few points less. I have never had one over .035 and would think that patterns would suffer if the choke was increased but have never tested that thought. I have worked with 16ga guns with choke of .031 My two go to hunting guns for Kansas are .031 in my left barrel, I shoot fiocchi HV-5# this works great for longer shots on wild roosters. This spring I hope to test some other chokes including .035 with my hunting loads. For some reason I have found several Fox 16ga SW that have the 26" barrels and x-full left choke?,,, also I find few 28" or 30" SW guns with over .026 -.028 of choke. I have a hi condition Philly SW 30" on the way and seller said it was choked very tight....I hope its at .035 in the left barrel.....(-: SXS Ohio
