PARKER PAGES

Post by George Lander »

I received my copy of Parker Pages in the mail today and read two great articles. One was on Jim Kelly and Darlington Gun Works on "The Coffee Can Parker" and the other by my friend and author John Frierson who was a hunting buddy of Havilah Babcock. It would be great if us "Fox Folks" could put out a publication like this.

Best Regards, George

I enjoyed the article on the Coffee Can Parker - a very rare CHE 20-gauge gun. Mr Kelly certainly did some nice work on it. But to my eye the stock should have been done with a period looking finish instead of a shiny one that looks like it belongs on a brand new Krieghoff. I had/have the same feedback on the shiny finish on the buttstock Mr Kelly made for the Fox that's supposed to be Bo-Whoop. Yeah I know a restoration will never look original but even so, you generally can come close. Here's a comparison that comes to mind as regards rare classic muscle cars: let's say you have a barn find 1964 Ford Thunderbolt (only about 100 ever made) and you're getting it properly restored. Would you have it painted with modern shiny paint with metallic speckles, or something that will look close to original? Rhetorical question. All this is JMO gents.

I'm not familiar with the "Parker Pages". Is the concept similar to the Fox quarterly newsletter? Also, is this the George that had the really beautiful .410 at Hidden Hollow?

What we need from members is articles submitted to our editor for publication in the NL. We have had great articles written by members----THANK YOU to all that have contributed such fine material.
If you have never written an article for the NL PLEASE make it a personal priority. We strongly encourage more participation. If you can write a post on the forum you can write an article about your favorite Fox. :D

I have submitted articles to the Fox Newsletter and encourage others to do the same. It would be great if enough people submitted articles so that the newsletter could come 4 times a year. Enough people have to submit articles first, though.

Different George. I had the really beautiful 4 gauge E.M. Reilly double at the Deep River Southern.
