Shotgun Boogie

Post by Jeff S »

In "Doctor: Do we have a pulse?", Toolman complained that there hasn't been enough chatter on this web page. Well, I don't like to see Toolman unhappy, so here goes... This morning as I was driving to work, the radio was playing "Shotgun Boogie" by Tennessee Ernie Ford. In case one or two of you are not familiar with the song, the third verse goes like this: "Well, I met a pretty gal, she was tall and thin. I asked her what she had, she said, "A Fox four ten". I looked her up and down, said, "Boy, this is love". So we headed to the brush to shoot a big fat dove." Now, maybe when the song was written, the author didn't do a "fact check". Or, I would I hate to think that good ol' Tennessee Ernie Ford was misleading us, but I have never heard of a Fox 410. So, was there ever a Fox 410, or was Ernie wrong? Any thoughts?

The Flyer inserted in some 1939 A.H. Fox catalogues announcing the Model B only had the 12-, 16- and 20-gauges --

The 1940 A.H. Fox catalogue also shows the Model B in .410-bore --

and the price had gone up to $25.

Thanks Researcher. So the guy in song really did hook up with a gal with a Fox 410. Lucky him!
