Another Bobwhite Hunt with the Fox XE 20.

Post by AmarilloMike »

Went by myself. Moved fourteen different coveys, 12 pointed, 3 flushed. One six hour walk in the thick cover and a few inches of snow.. Me and my old dog Red both needed aspirin when we got back to the truck. Red will turn nine next month.

I hunted in a teeshirt. Sunny, cold, and not much wind.

Hunted on the North side of the Salt Fork of the Red River.

Jazzy, thirteen months, had a good day. She found and pointed several coveys. And she even twice tracked coveys for seventy five yards or so, one downwind, without flushing either one.

Jazzy has the point (on the left). Red is backing:

Red is pointing a wounded bird. If you look closely you can see her:

I was hunting the breaks North of the river, pretty hard on an old man:

Jazzy did manage to find a covey out in the creek bottom:

Mike: Great pictures----you are a fortunate man to be blessed with great dogs and live in a place they can do what they were born to do.
Texas quail hunting is the best and your pictures show the beauty of the environment. The Fox is a beauty and it certainly got the game!!! Craig

The "Bobwhite King" and his dogs have done it again! Mike, I am surprised you did not get more snow from that storm that went thru the Panhandle recently. It looks like the Bobs survived the storm in good shape.

Great pics again, Mike. You may think you're an "old Man" but you're still pretty tough to hunt in the snow in a short sleeved T-shirt, IMO, even with no wind. I know what it's like to work up a sweat in the cold, tho'.

OBTW, naproxen sodium works better for me when I hunt hard all day.

Thank you fellows!

I am a lucky rascal for sure.

Went yesterday with my shooting student Joe Wood. We had a great day.

Got pictures of my Fox XE 12 with the 26" barrels along with a stinger of birds.

Not going to be able to go again for a long time - not till tomorrow.

Best,

Mike

Always enjoy your posts Mike. Wish we had hunting like this in Missippi. No gun for student Joe? Guess you made him tote your shells, water & birds, or maybe he toted your second gun & was your loader.

Thank you Mike.
On the hunt yesterday Joe carried a very nice British sidelock, a sixteen bore William Cashmore. Beautifully made and a bird killer.

His only contribution was lunch. Here is the receiptImage

So what's with the "Scrooge" on the receipt...take carryout from Arby's and don't give a tip? LOL

Joe paid for lunch. Then they asked for a name they could call when our order was ready. That is the name I gave them. :D :D :P

Not that I "fast-food" it often, but I thought, geez, now I'm going to be expected to tip for self-serve!

Beautiful gun and beautiful pictures, but I recommend the Arby's chicken cordon bleu.
