Because, Bill, it's the p-r-o-j-e-c-t not the result that interests me. I've had 6 HEs, now I have 1...Besides, "Hogwell" suffered from short barrels (a mere 30" but original and at $1200 a fine $tart to a project!)) and altered (by another) chokes...now I ask you, what is the point of an HE with altered bores and/or chokes. It shot well enough with modern Bismuth or TM loads with its .035/.035 chokes but I'm not about to mess with all the hard work of Askins/Sweeley and Burt! I am anxious to get Ho'ace finished so it can go head to head with my new #3 frame Parker 32" DH with factory 2 7/8" chambers and .130" of Titanic steel over the chamber ends....at a mere 8 lbs a light fowler

Hogwell was definitely the "Best heavily gold inlaid HE Grade Fox ever found." Sometimes on a moonless night, I can see a glow in the sky over the cornfield across the road. I don't know if it's a distant shopping mall or Hogwell's new owner taking him out for a stroll.

Interesting thread. I remember reading about Hogwell a while back but can't quite place its new owner. Are you saying it's in the place where screws are never turned, and all it's stablemates are best ever found?

It was only "The best ever found" for a short period of time. It now lives across a corn field from my house in Maryland. I ran into Hogwell quite by accident, being shot locally. The new owner was quite surprised that I recognized Hogwell since all evidence of his identity had been removed. Only the wonderful juglans regia remained intact.

That was an Ithaca Classic Doubles triggerguard on Hogwell that used to advertised in Gun List. That was the only gold on the gun. If I could have found another I would have kept the Gournet gilded guard but it was too much trouble to make another...BTW, I sold it with the original wood...I wonder if that found its way to the new keeper.Tom Gibbons slapped down the cash at the Allentown Show whilst others oooed and awwwed with their hands in there pockets. Mike P. handed him the gun so away Hoggie went...P.S. Bill, the wood on Ho'ace is just as nice and his ivory tipped XE fore end looks very Becker.

I guess I didn't realize that wood on the gun I saw locally was not as nice as I thought it was, or maybe you are implying that you sold it with both sets of wood.

Both sets of wood and the original pg triggerguard went to "never a turn unscrewed"...

Birddawg, don't count out the Model 21 for character and waterfowling and competition shooting provenance. One of my long barrel 21s was built for Winchester pro shooter Cap Grier, member of the 1938? World Record ATA squad, at least three of whom shot Model 21s to set the World Record 993X1000. Another is Lester Ruwe's 3" magnum duck gun with gold bust inletted in the stock indicating Mr. Ruwe's membership in the exclusive "Joe Knapp Club", written about by David Trevallion in Shooting Sportsman magazine. Another is my Dad's 20 gauge skeet gun. Model 21s are not without character and variety. After all, Nash Buckingham and his gunning buddy, Henry Bartholomew both shot Model 21s as well as #0 barreled heavy frame Foxes.
