Hi all,
I have been lurking around here for a while, and I decided to join and tell you about my Sterlingworth. She is sn# 66080, that should mean she was built in Phila. in 1912. She has 26 inch barrels, choked modified and improved cylinder, double triggers, and automatic ejectors. I bought her many years ago as a project gun. She has good wood and the checkering is still sharp, the barrels retain almost all of the original bluing, and the bores are bright and shiny. The barrels although not marked as such are bored to 2 3/4" She had several issues, and I figured if She was totally FUBAR, I would break her down to a parts gun. She was missing a couple small parts, someone had taken her apart and buffed or polished all the color off the receiver to the point that it was so shiny that it looked almost chromed. My main concern was that she appeared to double when one trigger was pulled. I felt that the receiver had an obscene appearance, and tried many methods to put some color back on it. I did not want to try to put case color back on it as I felt that would be too fake. I was looking to achieve a silver grey finish that would give an appearance of being worn, and well used. I can't remember how many formulas I tried, but I finally achieved success. When I started with this gun there was no internet, and finding parts was all but impossible. I recently found Jason at Pumpkin Mountain Gun Shop, I tried to order parts from him online, and he replied that he wanted me to call and talk to him on the phone. He has an unbelievable inventory of new old stock parts for Fox shotguns, and is a wealth of knowledge on the guns. After assuring him I was capable of doing my own repairs, I ordered the parts and he shipped them to me promptly. After assembling my gun, I disassembled it and assembled it without the butt-stock revealing that the triggers had been replaced, but not fitted, pressing on the sears when the trigger plate was tightened down. After some time consuming file work I now have everything fitted properly, and she functions perfectly. I test fired her yesterday, and she functions as she is supposed to. I am looking forward to giving her a workout at the table trap field, and soon taking her small game hunting.

Welcome to our little asylum Myles! Sounds like you are off to a good start after the assist from Jason. Keep us posted on your Sterly's performance breaking clays and taking game. Now the "real" fun begins. You can start dreaming about Fox #2!!

On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....
