New Fox purchase. Barrel rattle?

Post by chave78 »

Hello Everyone--

My 2nd try at a Fox. This one is very nice, but has a strange rattle sound when you invert the barrels. It sounds like a piece of metal traveling down the barrels. The barrels have been reblued. Any idea what that is and if it is a sign of bad things to come? I bought the gun from a fellow board member and am still in the inspection period.

Thanks for any advice!

Hard to say exactly without the gun in hand, but it sounds like loose solder in between the ribs. I've got several Foxes that are like this, and flipping the barrels over and over, you can hear it. They have been fine for years with no issues. If the barrels ring and you don't have any lose ribs, it's probably fine, but nobody can really tell you if it's a sign of worse thing to come or not.

Thanks, Mike - precisely my take - I've owned two (one a smallbore) that had the same rattle which went nowhere over the years.
