Trunk Case Recommendations?

Post by SmithShady »

So, I have a project finishing up, and as the final step I'd like to find a nice hard case to carry/display my Fox in. I'm not looking to break the bank and spend $800-$2,500 on an Oak & Leather Masterpiece, I just want something of good quality that will fit a Fox with two sets of barrels, 28" and 32". It would be nice to find something vintage that fits, but that may be tough with the two barrels. I'll be looking at the Southern in a few weeks but thought I would check to see if anybody here has one they are particularly happy with or would recommend?

Thanks,

Mike

I bought a one barrel case made by the predecessor to Jeff's Outfitters. If you can find one, they are good cases. I paid $175 for mine, which I thought was a good deal

Mike -

You will indeed search far and wide for a worthy vintage 2-bbl. case! A good client of mine for whom I have done many case jobs recently threw in the towel after looking for about 3 years for a case to fit a Parker 32'/28" 2-bbl. set. He finally ordered out one of Galazan's 2-bbl. leather trunk cases (not O&L, leather over wood). I was impressed with it (except for the straps); well-built and fitted as offered (will still require minor fitting). It retails for $750 which I think is a decent price, expecially considering it comes with a heavy mail canvas over-cover to protect it. You can order canvas and leather models for a good bit less, but the leather ones are really classy. I will have a good selection of rejuvenated leg-0-mutton cases and up to 5-7 trunk cases, mostly British, about half with makers' labels, at my booth at the Southern at SxS. Look for me at the end of the lower tent right next to where Morris parks the RST ammo truck. Thanks, Kevin

Shady, don't be too quick to buy a case. Tool Man asked me to make you one of my "special" groundhog and pine gun cases. Beautiful white pine with groundhog hide lining. Handles are made from groundhog sinew and the locks come from K80 top levers.

Maybe a collaboration is in order! I'll just send you the white pine shipping container I built, and you can provide the fur lining. I built that to accommodate 32" barrels, so it should be perfect!

Mikey, Earmuffs.......Kevin, I'll come find you at the Southern.

FEIguncases.com They have a website with price list. I have had difficult cases built by them. They built me a wonderful case for a 36" eight gauge. About a third of the price of a Huey.

Shady, I'm up to 8 groundhogs. Closing in on what we need to line that pine case!! We only use the prime pelt from the back of the hog. No rubbed off belly skin showing!!

Some of the neighborhood cats would look really good in a gun case

I shot a round of sporting with Mike today at his club and have to confess, I peeked in his fur shed. In addition to the woodchuck hides he has some nice prime #1 skunk pelts in his stash. I do think Shady's honey & smoke Fox stock will look good nestled in a lining of jet black fur. Just sayin .....

I seen a couple of number 4's mashed flat on a local highway the other day. Don't think the pelts were prime however. :)
