Julia's auction any surprises?
Any surprises at the Julia's auction??? I was not surprised the CE did not sell. The 20ga DE seemed like a bargain. I was surprised the M brought $35K. How about you what is your post game take??
Any guesses on what the Super Fox 20 will sell for at the Amoskeag sale??

Re: Julia's auction any surprises?
What was the hammer price on the DE 20? $35K seems like a lot of money for the M but how many were made? I've got a J and really like the way it handles and smokes trap birds but at $35K I'd almost be afraid to risk shooting a gun.
I don't follow the auctions much but my guess on the HE 20 is $15 to $18K.

Yeah, the surprise for me at the Julia auction was the little Remington M12 F grade that I wanted for myself. What a fantastic example!! Estimate was $7500 to $12,500 I recall. I figured I'd have a shot in the high teens..... it sold for $29k + the vig.

The Remington model 32 high grade four barrel set sold for roughly 12k no engraver specified but a beautiful gun. I was unsure as to where it would land because it did not have a named engraver.

I, for one, was astounded at the prices realized. Everything that I bid on went way beyond. Lot 2557, a 20 gauge DHE, brought $6K and Lot 2571 an SC SBT brought $5K. The Remington Model 32, lot 2459, brought $8,500. Other lots in the auction went well beyond the high estimate. I hope that means our economy is recovering.

Re: Julia's auction any surprises?
The 20 ga DE went for about half of what I guessed it would bring. After I saw what it brought I regretted not vetting the gun so I could bid on it. I already had several Fox and Parker smallbores setting in the safe so I just couldn't see spending 30K (my erstwhile guess at its hammer price) on a another one. I think I made a big mistake. I guess I will know for sure in a few years.
I love hunting bobwhite, one of three or four classic American native upland gamebirds. I had a wonderful afternoon with the dogs, bobs, and a 5-3/4 pound Parker GH 28ga last month on my birdlease. I just can't imagine any gun more appropriate to taking bobs than classic American double smallbores made by Fox, Parker, and Ithaca. Many others feel the same way I think. Anyway that is my take on why the little guns are appreciating faster than the twelve bore guns.
The light weight Parker A1Special 12 bore went for less than I thought it would too.

Arcmaster, the 32 may well have been engraved by Joseph Fugger as stated in the description. The previous owner of the gun did a lot of business with Abercrombie and Fitch in the fifties giving the Fugger connection some weight. He was the founder of my gun club and passed away in the sixties.

Truth be told (in my opinion) the person that bought the DE 20ga got one hell of a buy. It is a nice gun.... a rare gun. I understand it has been refinished... but it was done well, so it is what it is. Frankly, I was up there for three days buying other guns and decided to hightail it out of Maine ahead of schedule due to the poor weather forecast. I never made phone arrangements(like a moron) to bid on the gun from the truck because frankly I figured with the exposure that the gun had gotten it was going to shoot out of the gate strong & fast and finish for much much more that it sold for. Yup, auctions..... ya never know. Amateur mistake on my part. As Amarillo Mike said it seems like it went for about half of what I expected it would. Congrats to whomever got a sweet little Fox.

Ditto, I was tempted to put in a low ball bid on the 20 that would have been higher than the hammer price. Congrats to the winner who actually bidMARSHFELLOW wrote:Truth be told (in my opinion) the person that bought the DE 20ga got one hell of a buy. It is a nice gun.... a rare gun.
