As many probably know the winter in the northeast has been brutal. Not that much snow here where I live but unrelenting cold and all the snowfalls piling up with just enough melting to have ice in layers underneath. A long time ago a set of chains was always in car trunks, at least hereabouts. There just isn't anything like chains on rear-wheel drives. Many's the day I had to crawl under the car in my school clothes to "put on the irons", to use the phrase of the day. Over the past few winters I was able to do the plowing just with the Rhino in 4WD. Not this year and especially when in our woods to refill the bin at our critter feeder. They're having a really bad time too. So far I've put out 700 pounds of cracked and ground corn, and have another 300 in the garage. Nothing like puttin on the irons to grind up that snowy and icy hill to the feeder. Cell phone pics taken this morning - here ya go.

I could probably clean all the snow and ice away with a pick and shovel faster than I could put on a set of tire chains. I wouldn't even know where to start.
Worst winter in NEPA since 1904!! Seems like chains are the order of the day everyday. Looks like we may have it begin warming up next week Frank. We'll have to keep the chains on for a little while longer, then there's always the March snowstorm of the heavy wet type that dumps 10" on us in a few hours. So ready to see green again!
You reminded me of when I transferred from Washington state to Pascagoula Mississippi. the movers were unpacking my stuff and wanted to know what those chain things were for. They couldn't believe that we had to use them.
