German SxS drilling.
Hey fellas,
I know this is not about one of Ansleys finest but as a frequent follower of this forum I'm aware of the vast knowledge of many of you . My question is has anyone ever seen a drilling with 20 ga 16 ga and 9.3 barrels ? It has damacus shotgun barrels and is German and Belgian proofs. Very interesting piece just not sure if it should share a safe with my other double guns.
Thanks for your input.

Sounds like a scenario for an accident to have two different gauge shells in your pocket. With both Belgian and German proofs perhaps it was originally made in one country with two 16-gauge barrels and one was damaged and replaced in the other country with a 20-gauge tube?

I agree it does seem like an accident looking for a place to happen. Just was wondering if anyone has run across another like it. Seemed really odd to me.

Re: German SxS drilling.
Last summer I saw a unique (at least to me) drilling by that was a 12 X 12 smoothbore over a 20 gauge paradox barrel. The rifling in the 20 gauge barrel was just the last couple of inches. It had sights and double triggers with a safety type mechanism where a safety normally would be to swith to the lower barrel. Where one would normally see "SAFE" it said "BALLE" When you push it forward the front trigger shoots the lower 20 gauge paradox barrel. It had a Greener style safety on the left side.

I thought it was pretty interesting at the time.

Romac,
That is a nice looking gun ! The one I looked at this morning was interesting it has a set trigger for the rifle barrel. If I purchase it I will try to post some pictures. Thanks to all for your thoughts.

I have a catalogue of Franz Jaeger and that configuration could have been ordered. I was a member of the German gun collectors assoc.

Re: German SxS drilling.
Some of the early DGJ issues have articles about early German doubles and drillings. They did say that before the German proof houses opened that they used Belgian proof houses which did use much higher pressures when they did their proofing.
