16 Gauge Sterlingworth Ejector 1934-1935

Post by WPGRIFFON »

Happy to get this one, I saved it from being converted to graded gun - 1934-35 Utica 16 Sterlingworth ejector, nearly 100% blue on 28" 3 weight barrels, measures 13-7/8" to wood with old pad. Really good shape overall. These guns sure are hard to find. Thanks Ken

Interesting gun. I've have not seen that forearm checkering pattern before. These are the Sterlingworth Ejector forearms I've seen --

Researcher,

The checkering pattern is not like other Sterlingworths I have seen to date either. The forearm wood is proud and the checkering on the grip and forearm appear to be the same age, color, finish is the same, etc. looks original to me. I posted a shot of the barrel side of the forearm. I have one other 16 ejector,1937 or 38 vintage and the pattern is similar to #2 you posted.

Thanks

Nice job rescuing that one. That gun is in far to good of shape to be used for an upgrade in my opinion. The unique checkering pattern is a bonus!

VERY nice gun. If the wood measures 13 7/8th it most likely was not cut but I really like the thin pad very handsome in my opinion. Thanks for posting your pictures. Craig

The leather faced pad looks similar to original pads I have seen on graded Foxes.

I have a late Savage-era Fox-Sterlingworth Ejector Brush with a similar leather-faced pad which I'm sure in my own mind is original. For my records, does the gun in question here have barrels marked "Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel" or "Special Alloy -- Forged Steel"? I've got 11 guns recorded in the 370xxx serial number range -- six Sterlingworth Fluid, four Special Alloy and one Chicopee Falls.

Mr. Researcher,

Barrels are marked "Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel".

Also per our recent discussion - my brother was in a PA gun shop recently which has several Sterlingworth shooters for sale, he spotted one of the 16 gauge guns sporting the same unusual forearm checkering pattern that this gun has. I am hoping to get to see it before it is sold to document serial number and get picture of forearm.

Thanks for the comments.

Dave if you don't already have it recoeded 370951 is a brush extractor marked "Special Alloy" and has the standard Savage era fat splinter forend.

Thank you and thank you.

Twice Barrel,

Does 370951 have the capped or capless pistol grip?

I just purchased #367... At a local shop this weekend. It is a 30 inch ejector full full sterly with the same checkering as the one on the left.
