Somewhat early Fox

Post by kgb »

I've got an A grade 12ga on hold with a S/N of 12245, any estimates of when it might have been manufactured? It's a 30" bbl'd gun with a 1" pad added on and very light engraving which has been worn down somewhat over the years.

That frame forging number would date to ABOUT 1910 but gun could be later or much later, depending on when it was actually shipped. Just a comment on the worn engraving. That is very hard to do through normal hand wear. You'll want to check if the frame was buffed or such.

Could be it was just that light to begin with. Going by my second-edition Fox book by MM the engraving styles began to change after 1911, so 1910 makes sense. Frame date is good enough for me, thanks.
