12 gauge

Post by helpdad »

trying to help my Dad find info on an A H Fox Company double barrel 12 gauge, with the numbers 127511 on it. He received it about 50 years ago and at that time estimates its age at 40-45 years. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your dad owned a 12-gauge Sterlingworth probably built in 1930. It was likely built/assembled at Savage Arms in Utica N.Y. and has Philadelphia features. (i.e slim forend and capped pistol grip). It probably was roll stamped on the sides of the action "FOX STERLINGWORTH". More than likely it came from the factory with a pistol grip, splinter forend, DT's and it's barrels were 26", 28", 30" or 32" long. Chances are it's an extractor gun, but then again, it could have been equipped with ejectors.

Others may be along to correct me and/or offer further information.
