It is still at the shop. I hope to have it back by September in time for hunting.

Me too, hope to have it done by hunting season.

The 16 CE 30" is now with Mitch Schultz to check it out and make sure it's safe to shoot and fix any internals if needed.
Next week I'm off to Traverse City, Michigan to be SxS fitted by Brian Bilinski at Fieldsport.
Once the gun is back and my measurements complete then it'll be sent to Mark Larson for the stock extension and wood restoration as it is now two inches too short to shoot. That's two too to.

Then the 16 is off to Jim Greenwood for bending and a 1/2 in leather covered recoil pad.
Brownish burgundy would look good. A one inch pad seems too thick. I like the 1/2.

Talk about a pampered gun!
But a Fox 16 is worth it.

George is currently at bird dog school in Tennessee. He'll be back late August.

All this because of the Culligan Man, Oprah and a loving wife.

Great post. I would like to hear and see the results of the Mark Larson stock extension. Question one is "Does Mark do the extension or does he just do the coloring on the extension done by others?" Thanks for your post.

Ithaca,

I'm in the Midwest, but would love to shoot with you, Toolman, Milrob And the Gent from New Hampshire with the Llewellen.
Got to put the ribs on the grill now. They've been slow baking in the Dutch oven for 3 hours at 250.
I'll be back.

Mr. Eightbore,

Mark Larson will add the wood then stain, shape, paint or whatever he does to make it all come together. He'll also redo the checkering and refinish the ebony detailed forend to match the stock.
We are very fortunate to have him in our camp as a vintage gun aficionado . What an amazing artist.
I'll provide pre and postoperative pictures when the job is complete.

Do to the kindness and advice of the members of this here forum, the patina of the metal will be kept as is. It has soul now and I think it's important for it to be kept soulful.

I got lucky finding a 16 with 30" #4 barrels. I've always wanted a 16 gauge but was more interested in continental guns at the time. Over the years I Knew about Fox from MM's writings. Did research and when I decided on an American gun this 16CE just happened to be there. This was before I knew anything about #4 barrels and the relative rarity of 30" in a 16.

I never considered Parker, Smith, or Lefever. Don't know much about them but am grateful that they are around because in order for Fox to be #1, there has to be others in second third and fourth place.

Mr. Ithaca 33,
This morning I read with interest Frank Srebro's great article in DGJ on the NID 10. Might need to add one of them for geese. There is a big gun show this weekend in the city so I'll see if there's one available. It was interesting to learn from Mr. Srebro that the guns were made in response to the development of the shotshell, not the other way around. Wonderful article.

A little off the subject but for anyone looking for an Ithaca Super 10: there's more info and selection criteria in the second part of the article but I won't elaborate here/now because it's not fair to the publishers. Second part will be in the upcoming Summer edition of the DGJ. But in short, Super 10's are far more scarce than Super-Foxes and are very hard to find. Only about 580 +/- NID Super 10's were made as compared with 900+ Super-Fox 12 ga guns. Super 10's were chambered for 10-ga 2-7/8-inch shells, will weigh about 9 pounds (on par with a typical Super-Fox), and will have a serial number in the 400,000 range. They are often confused with the earlier Flues Model, and with the later 3-1/2-inch chambered Double Magnums that had serial nos in the 500,000's.

The NID standard frame serial numbers start at 425,000 and go into the 460,000 range. I would like to own a Super Ten because I can't handle my old NID Mag Ten any more.

Mr. Silvers, that's a beautiful gun.
Didn't know that your name was Frank.
Would your last name be Srebro?

Is the star on the side be suggestive of any NID or just the 10?
I appreciate the information.
Looking forward to the summer issue of DGJ.

Mr. Researcher,
That's a delightful gun too. Stock wood awesome.

Milrob, I'm sorry the thread on your CE 16 got off on a tangent. I promise, I won't post anything else on Ithacas after this reply. Ithaca did the star engraving for a few years on NID's of all gauges. Undoubtedly an effort to jazz up the frame aesthetics. Anyone interested in Ithacas might consider getting a copy of Walt Snyder's excellent book The Ithaca Gun Company: From the Beginning. The book may be found on Amazon, E Bay etc.
