Super Fox Project and I need some photos
Super Fox Project and I need some photos
Hi all I have a Super Fox live bird gun that has a stock and fore end issues. I've got a gunsmith line up to do the re-stock and fore end. Thanks to Jason Barden at Pumpkin Mountain I was able to get a stock and beaver tail fore end. What I'm asking for is photo's of Fox beaver tail fore ends and checkering. So if any of you have a fox with beaver tail fore end could you please post some photo's I would greatly appreciate it.

Here are the two styles of beavertails used in the Savage era --

The rightious Philadelphia era beavertails I've seen are a bit different, but I don't have a picture of one. The beavertail forearm was never catalogued during the Philadelphia years, but they do exist.

Thank you this is leading me in the right direction. I'm trying to put this live bird superfox back to what it would have looked like in 1923 when it was built.

Does your Fox "letter/card" with a beavertail from the factory?? I remember Tom Kidd doing an article years ago in the DGJ on guns which went to Bartholomew I believe with pictures of factory beavertails.

Marshfellow, the gun does letter with a beavertail fore end. I will have to dig through my double gun journals. However I don't have a complete set. If anyone comes across that volume please let me know.

I found it, Double Gun Journal Volume 7, issue 2. In my experience righteous Philly Fox beavertails are one scarce item.
I have a S/F with a beavertail, very similar to one pictured in the article, I will try to get you a couple pics. What is the SN of your gun? Does it have the "spade type" anchor on the inside forend iron?

Marshfellow, the S/N 28392. I don't have that issue. I will be contacting DGJ tomorrow and order that issue. The fore end hanger it's wide and does look like a spade with wings about 1/2" in front of the ejectors. Thanks for the info, its leading me in the right direction.

I remember 28392---Steve Barnett had it at the 2010 Vintagers.

I just wanted to thank you all for helping me out with photos and the DGJ's with beaver tail fore end checkering. I just got back my super fox live bird gun from Rob Bose of Bose's gun shop in Emerson, NE he does outstanding stock work and checkering. Now I'm just waiting for Spring to show up here in the Dakota's to shoot a little 5 Stand, Trap, and Skeet.

DITTO on those pics. Sounds like quite the project. Just curious, why "live bird gun" in your description?
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....

Tool, as Craig had written Steve Barnett had this Super at the VC at Pintail Point and I think we all looked at it. As I recall it had 30-inch tubes, was made with no safety and was regulated for pigeon size shot. Nice gun.
Re: Super Fox Project and I need some photos
I'm sorry guys, I don't spend a lot of time online. But yes the gun was designed to be a live bird gun the left bbl is more open then the right, no safety and set up to shoot 7.5 shot. I'm not a guy who spends a lot of time with a camera in my hands. I haven't got a chance to take the gun out for a little shooting. Once I do I'll try and take some photos with a digital camera and get some posted. I'll tell you before hand I'm not the best at photos but I know the lighting outside will be better then what I have to work with inside. Hopefully if the weather stays holds out next week in SD I'll get a chance to pattern and shoot a little skeet with it.
