Ejector Issues or not? Also hard safety selector

Post by Lastmohecken »

Hello, I am new to the forum, and while I love old and not so old side by sides, I have yet to own a Fox, owning and shooting mostly L.C. Smiths, Winchester 23's, Charles Lancaster and a J.P. Sauer. I am looking for a nice Fox and I found a pretty clean A grade on the internet but it looks like it has ejectors. For the most part I have had fair luck with ejectors, But they can be troublesome and frankly I am pretty happy with extractors, but quite often I find another gun I want that has ejectors, and I am currently dealing with an ejector issue on the left barrel of my Charles Lancaster.

Anyway, how reliable and trouble free are the Fox ejectors in general? The gun I am looking at is a 1913 so I think it has improved ejectors on it. Also, I have looked, over the year,s at a lot of mostly Sterlingworths at gunshows, etc and I would say that almost 90% of them had a very stiff safety. I have been told that a good cleaning usually fixes the hard safety. Any comments on the safety would be appreciated. I have passed on buying, several due to the stiff safety, but others claim that their Fox guns do not have a stiff safety.

I am just looking for info, to help me decide on a Fox.

The second type ejectors are very reliable in my experiences with them. They do not have as many parts as say Parkers,Stiff ,hard safeties are a simple fix. Bobby

You remove stock and try a small dab of grease on the two recesses machined at rear of top tang. They are where the safety spring slides on and off safe.Sometimes the safety spring needs to be bent and adjusted. Bobby

Thanks, for the info. I guess I waited too long and lost the one I was looking at, so I will just keep looking and hopefully find a nice one.
