20 GA. Fox Barrels WANTED.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 20 ga. Fox I have no idea how old it is or anything. The gun was my Grandfathers. I am looking to replace the barrels. NO. I don't want to sell the gun. I will PAY GOOD MONEY for a set of replacement barrels. The gun is beautiful and I want to hand it down to my son. I am not educated about these guns so someone will have to walk me through even were to look to post the right information about the gun. Thanks in advance for any help. Rocky West Monroe,La.

Re: 20 GA. Fox Barrels WANTED.
Hey Rocky,
Welcome to the forum! I think it would help us to know if you've got a graded gun, or possibly a field grade model (Sterlingworth). Pictures of the portion you do have would be the best way for us to evaluate your gun. Another suggestion would be to check out the home page for the Fox Collectors Association http://www.foxcollectors.com/ah_fox/content/index.html. At the top there is a grade directory labeled "Fox Gun Grades", with pictures of all the different types of Fox guns. I would suggest checking out the pictures of the Sterlingworth's and Graded Guns to see if any of the pictures match the gun you have. You can also check the water table on the receiver for the serial number and grade stamp.
For example, this is an early A Grade gun with the serial number and letter A stamped on the water table.

If you have a graded gun, then there is information that could be gained on your gun's history by joining the AHFCA. We have copies of the original order cards for most graded guns with a serial number above 10,000. Membership entitles you to a free card lookup which you could use on this gun.
Here is an example of a factory order card for a C Grade Fox.

If the gun turns out to be a Sterlingworth, there is still information available on the gun through John Callahan, the arms historian. I believe there is a link to his contact information on the Fox home page as well. With the serial number and some pictures we can give you a good idea of what you have, what year it was made, and how difficult it might be to find a replacement set of barrels for it. They are out there, and you might find someone on this site with a set they are willing to part with. We love the idea of getting another Fox back together, especially if it will be passed on to a younger generation who will appreciate these fine guns. Again, welcome to the forum!
Thanks,
Mike

Re: 20 GA. Fox Barrels WANTED.
Thanks Mike. I will try to post as much info as possible. I really would like to get this gun looking like it did when my Grandfather used it. The numbers on the base plate are 262705. The same number is the same on the barrels I have. They are just 10 inches shorter due to my uncles inability to keep his balance in a rice field and then deciding to shoot. Hence barrels that are banana peeled. Rocky

262705 is a 20-gauge Sterlingworth serial number from about 1929, right around the time the Godshalks sold off the A.H. Fox Gun Co. business to Savage and production of Fox shotguns was moved to the Savage Arms Co. factory at Utica, NY.

Thanks. Forgive me, but what does new old stock mean? I am just a pup when comes to this stuff. Is that something people do often, put 16 ga. Barrels on a 20ga.? I am just learning about this stuff. Would like to keep the gun as close to stock as possible. But I am up for all suggestions. Look forward to your answers. Rock

Re: 20 GA. Fox Barrels WANTED.
Fox 16ga guns were built on the 20ga frame, so it wouldn't be out of line to fit them, but then of course it would no longer be a 20ga gun.

Give Barden, Jason at Pumpkin Mountain Gun Shop a call. He is located at 7940 Rt 30 Blue Mountain Lake, NY 12812. His phone number is 518-352-1977. When I could find his web site he was advertising new in the white Fox barrels and has extractor/ejector and forend parts on hand.

Ok. So I talked to Jason today. Man he is awesome and very helpful. Can't say enough good things about him. What a great guy and very knowledgable. He told me to try to find some 20ga. Barrels first. Preferably sterlingworth. So if anyone has a set that they would remotely be interested in parting with I sure would like to visit. I am trying to keep this gun as original as possible. I don't want to sell it. I want to pass it down to my son... Thanks for all the help.
